چکیده

Bandwidth allocation is a very important issue in ATM networks, especially when there are random fluctuating demands for service and variations in the service rates. In order to make ATM reliable, ATM is designed to support not only a wide range of traffic classes with diverse flow characteristics but also to guarantee the different Quality of Service (QoS) requirement as well. The QoS may be measured in terms of cell loss probability and maximum cell delay. We consider the bandwidth allocation scheme of ATM networks based on virtual path (VP) concept. The bandwidth is allocated individually for supporting different traffic classes with different QoS requirements within a VP. By applying the Markov Modulated Deterministic Process method, the different models of VP combinations are proposed in order to compute the minimum capacity and buffer size required to satisfy the entire QoS requirements when multiple classes of on-off sources are multiplexed into VP. The combinations of static VP, called static bandwidth allocation scheme, are proposed to achieve the optimum total capacity and total buffer required for satisfying the individual QoS requirements. Further, by revising the existing algorithms and cell loss probability function, the different priority assignments of VP combination, called dynamic bandwidth allocation scheme, are also proposed to compute the minimum capacity and buffer size. The simulations of these schemes are carried out to evaluate their performance.

Comparison of Static & Dynamic Bandwidth Allocation Schemes for Multiple QOS Classes in ATM Networks1

In ATM networks, the bandwidth of virtual paths (VPs) are allocated individually for the support of different traffic classes with different quality of service (QOS) requirements within a VP. A VP combination scheme defined in [8] is a way to assign traffic classes to different VPs for satisfying all the QOS requirements. It is also referred to as static bandwidth allocation schemes which may n...

On-Demand QoS Routing in Multihop Mobile Networks†

− The emergence of nomadic applications have recently generated a lot of interest in next generation wireless network infrastructures (e.g., the 3G EGPRS (Enhanced General Packet Radio Services), UMTS/IMT-2000, etc.) which provide differentiated service classes. So it is important to study how the Quality of Service (QoS), such as packet loss and bandwidth, should be guaranteed. To accomplish t...

A virtual path routing algorithm for ATM networks based on the equivalent bandwidth concept

The coexistence of a wide range of services with different quality of service (QoS) requirements in today’s networks makes the efficient use of resources a major issue. It is desirable to improve network efficiency by adaptively assigning resources to services that have different bandwidth demands. Implementing Broadband Integrated Services Digital Networks (B-ISDN) therefore requires a network...

Cell Scheduling and Bandwidth Allocation for Heterogeneous Vbr Video Conferencing Traffic

We first propose a new cell loss scheduling scheme, referred to as the QoS-scheme. This scheme can satisfy different individual quality of service (QoS) requirements of a group of virtual channel connections with minimum required bandwidth. We next derive a simple formula based on Gaussian approximation to allocate bandwidth to heterogeneous VBR video conferencing connections. Comparing the pro...
